How to create the 'Kgbpeople' Outbound Connection
What?
These step-by-step instructions will help you add a Kgbpeople link in Outbound Connections.
In addition to Archie and these instructions, an Internet connection is needed in order to set up the link to the people finder site. If the Kgbpeople site is not available for any reason, this cannot be construed as a defect of the Archie software or these instructions, and Archie Europe cannot be held responsible.
Tip: A number of illustrations in these instructions can be enlarged by right-clicking on the illustration.
Where?
The Outbound Connections can be configured in the Archie System Administration program (AEAdmin.exe). The System Administration login details can be obtained from the System Administrator. If the WACP is in use, you may want to try whether your Archie user name and password also let you access Archie Admin.
Why?
The Kgbpeople website allows you to request all kinds of personal information. We regularly receive questions about creating an Outbound Connection to the "Kgbpeople" people finder. If a user-defined Connection does not work properly, this generally indicates a small error in an essential part of the Connection. This Tip discusses all Tricks necessary for a working Connection.Let's do it!
Launch the Archie System Administration program and click on the Outbound Connections hyperlink. (See illustration above.)
Attention: The Outbound Connections user interface has two versions; a Default screen and an Advanced screen. These instructions assume that the Default screen is active.
The left part of the window contains a tree structure. Activate the Contact node.
Select Add (in the box at the right) and fill out the Name and Required Authorization fields.
Enter the following link in the Template field:
http://www.kgbpeople.com/people?fullname=+ &country=www
This should look as follows:

Background information: The Outbound Connection will replace the K07 and K14 variables in the link with the first and last name of the Contact Person.
Now select Advanced (at the bottom of the window). If the Advanced user interface is already active, you can skip this step.
Please make sure that Execute is activated and that URL is checked.
It is also essential that the Lower ascii option is checked. If this is not the case, certain names may not yield any results.
Now click on Save. ![]()
Use the new Outbound Connection in practice!
If everything has gone according to plan, you now have a functioning Outbound Connection to the Kgbpeople website. To check the connection, please launch Archie and log in using your user name and password. Now open an Organization record and select a random Contact Person.
Click on the Outbound Connections icon
next to the Contact Person, select Kgbpeople and "Open in browser". This will launch your default internet browser and open the Wie-O-Wie website, with the name of the Contact Person already entered as search data.
Archie Outbound Connections
Introduction
By clicking on the Outbound Connections icon
, you can run other software from Archie. Data belonging to the displayed organization, contact person or other starting point can be passed to the application started in this manner. Outbound connections can be set up in AEAdmin by the Application Administrator(s). You can click on the "Help" button in the list of outgoing connections for more information on this function and any additional possibilities.
Setup
From the AEAdmin.EXE program, click on the "Outbound Connections" hyperlink. This will open the following window:
Using the "Add" button you can create a new Outbound Connection.
Example
1. Start your browser and go to Google.
2. Enter a search term, e.g. "Archie Europe bv, Purmerend" and click on "Search".
3. Copy the contents of the Address bar to the clipboard.
4. Go to "Outbound Connections" and click on "Add".
5. Give the connection a name, e.g. "Google".
6. Paste the copied URL into the "Template" field.
7. In the text, select the text "Archie+Europe+bv".
8. Press F1 and look up the Archie variable in the list. In our example, this is <R01>
9. Select the word "Purmerend" and likewise replace it with the <R09>variable.
10. Save the Connection.
Attention!
If the text or the name contain diacritical marks or symbols displayed on the site as squares, you can correct this. Go to the outbound links administration menu and click on Advanced after selecting the connection. This will display a number of additional options. Clicking on "Edit" allows you to change these settings. Since most websites use URL encoding, this is the default setting. You can try to disable the setting, or check the box of the encoding used by the website in question.Below you will find various examples of outbound connections. These connections are ready to use: the Archie variables are already inserted. You only need to copy the URLs.
N.B. Please take into account that websites sometimes change their search URLs. In that case, the examples given here may lead to unexpected effects.

Geomap (Archie SQL)
The Organization filter of a query contains the "Geomap" button.
Clicking on this button will display the distribution of the selected organizations over the country in question. If the selected organizations are located in more than one country, the country with the largest number of organizations is shown first.
The Related overview of an organization also contains this button. It displays the geographic distribution of the organizations in question. You can choose the way the information is represented (percentage, numbers, dots).
Favorites in Activities (Archie SQL)
When adding an appointment, you can indicate the activity type, e.g. customer visit, presentation, call activity, etc. In order to do so, you can use the table with activity types, which is displayed automatically whenever you start entering a new activity.
You can edit this table by setting up your own Favorites. To do so, click on the 'Favorites' button and check the applicable activity types. From now on you will only see the activity types you have checked.
Activities
If you are using Activities in Archie, you obviously have to link these with an organization. If desired, you can set Archie to automatically display all your activities when Archie is launched. This will provide you with an overview of things to be done. But you can also choose to display only the Activities for that day. Or to display no Activities at all when starting up. You can set these options in Administration, Settings.
Planning appointments
Using the [F9] function key you can call up the planner from virtually all Archie components. The planner lets you see the internal and external appointments of you and your colleagues at a glance. Entering the initials of one or more colleagues will display an overview of the appointments of the colleague(s) selected by you.
Security
You can lock letter bodies, letter layouts, signatures, query definitions and report layouts. This will prevent other users from entering changes. This is a handy method to protect the items created by you. Duplication remains possible. Only the user who has locked one of the items mentioned here can remove the lock.More Articles...
